The U.S. Government Takeover of the Student Loan Program

Here are a few predictions from an economist who has been to this rodeo way too many times before:

1. Processing loan applications will be slower. More applications will be misplaced or mishandled.
2. Responses to questions will be slower, in some cases nonexistent.
3. Political favoritism will influence loan and grant decisions in some cases.
4. The promised $58 billion in savings will never materialize.
