Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) Dissects the Omnibus Spending Bill

Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC-09) published a Twitter thread dissecting the “omnibus” spending bill staggering through Congress.  His objective is, in the best tradition of the late William Proxmire, to highlight the worst travesties in this monstrosity.  (The perceptive reader will have figured out that I don’t like this bill very much.)  His entire takedown is in the pdf below.  Here are a few highlights.

$3.6 million for the Michelle Obama Trail is tucked in amongst a raft of earmarks.

Customs and Border Patrol cannot use funding to improve border security.

BUT there is $410 million for border protection in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman.

More money for FBI, ATF, and U.S. Attorneys with the directive to focus on January 6 cases.

$335 million to prepare for an influenza pandemic.  Bonus: part of this will be used to improve surveillance tools.
