Has Apple sold the taskbar in iOS 26? That question occurred to me as I I perused the home screen on my iPad. I saw this:

I’ve circled two items. This icon

was completely new to me. It launches an app called “Preview.” I never installed or launched this app.

The second

is for the well-known VLC media player. I may have installed it and even run it a few times, but there is no way it deserves a slot of highly valuable screen space.

The title of this article poses a question. I look forward to answers.
